Rick Evans

How did you get into radio?
During college, a theatre buddy of mine was working weekends at a local AC station and recruited me so he could have an occasional Saturday off and get some sleep. I took the bait and the rest, as they say, is history. I worked radio while I finished my college degree.

What other career fields have you worked in?
In between radio jobs, I spent 13 years as a high school theatre arts and speech teacher. My daughter was about 5 years old at the time I left radio for the classroom.  The schedule in teaching was perfect because it allowed me to spend lots of time with my little girl.  I also had the priveledge of watching her grow as an actress and was able to direct her in a number of very memorable plays in high school, including:  “The Cave Dwellers”, “The Miracle Worker”, “Mary Stuart”, “Blood Wedding” and “Medea”.

Where are you from?
I was born in the “Alamo” city: San Antonio, but did most of my growing up in north central Texas.

Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler (2004 Division I state football Champions). When I attended there, back in the 70’s, we tended to be a bit of a “laughing stock” on the ole’ gridiron. From there, stints at Tyler Junior College, East Texas State, North Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, and UT Tyler (I was on the 15 year plan!) finally landed me in a cap and gown.

Tell us about your family.
I have the most exquisitely beautiful wife and enchanting daughter that a man could ask for. I have the good fortune of having GREAT parents, who took the time to raise me right and teach me how to treat others. Wonderful siblings, in-laws and others make me the luckiest guy in the world.

What do you like best about your job?
It “taps” into the performer in me and I get a chance to play music I love for the greatest listeners on the planet.

Where would your ideal vacation spot be?
Anywhere in the Rocky Mountains!
